This marks a shift in corporate philanthrop since the Roundtable released itsin 2000, whicy noted that corporate responsibility was beginning to evolvs from community impact to bottom line The most recent report shows that the evolution, indeed, has takejn place. Boston struggles to maintain its college gradzs as they move intothe workforce, and the Rounsd Table report underscores that philanthropuy is a factor making some local companies more attractived to younger workers. The Roundtable issuer the report in collaboration with the Universitty of Massachusetts Boston EmergingLeaders Program.
A team from the Emerginbg Leaders Program started working on the report last interviewing 20 Massachusetts companies about their corporatwe social responsibilityactivities -- predominantly large companees and representing a cross-sectiojn of industries. “Historically CEOs woulde engage in philanthropy because it was the right thingto do. They wanter to be good corporate citizens,” said J.D. deputy director of the MassachusettdBusiness Roundtable. “Now there’s a good business case to incorporatingg it into theirbusiness plan. There’s a bottom line impact to it, in addition to being good for all the otheercommunity reasons.
” Based on the findings from the 20 companiesd included in the research, the report suggestw five ways companies can build a culture of social • Create a clear link to the company’s mission and secure endorsement at the executive level. Engage employees at all levelsas decision-maker in relation to corporate social responsibilityt targets and activities. • Leverage employees’ skill to make positive contributions tothe community. Provide opportunities for employees to developpnew skills.
