30-doctor GCAP group wants to leave Alliance - Orlando Business Journal:

GCAP, a primary care group with about 30 joined the hospital system only 20monthws ago. Now it’s claiming a litany of contracg violationsthat “have seriously affectecd the ability of the physiciand to provide excellent healtb care for their many In a June 3 lettefr to Health Alliance CEO Ken Hanover, the doctorss list 15 complaints, including: • Lack of 12 notice on changes in contractualk arrangements, including payment of benefits; • failure to pay leading to the “embarrassing shutdown of servicesd necessary to operate our business.” The doctors on Wednesday fileed a complaint in Hamilton County Common Plea s Court.
They ask to be released from servicw to the Health Alliance and for damages andattorney fees. When it joinecd the Health Alliancein 2007, GCAP was the only large, independeng practice of its type in the area. It becamse a wholly owned subsidiary of thehospital system, whicj includes University, Jewish and Fort Hamilton and the . The practice had hoperd to benefit from a complet e electronic health records systejm that could interact withthe Alliance’s as well as the ability to expand geographicall y and recruit doctors more Health Alliance spokesman Tony in a written statement, said the healthg system was "surprised and disappointed" by the lettefr and complaint.
He said the Alliance had initially tried to negotiater withthe physicians, then offered independent which the practice refused. The Alliance was preparinhg for preliminary discussions to sever the relationship when the lawsuitwas filed. "This litigation violates the terms of theservicwe agreement, which requires us to resolve disputes such as this with a neutral arbitrator. We would therefore encourage the GCAP physicians to upholde their contractual obligations and not pursue costly according tothe statement. withdrew from the Health Alliancs following a long court battles that began inMarch 2006.
It started operatingt independently in 2008 but only signed a final settlemenrt agreement inJanuary 2009. The two St. Luke hospitalsw similarly withdrew, reaching a settlement with the Healtbh Alliance inSeptember 2008. St. Luke has mergedd with .
